We are pleased to bring you the 4-Day Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Externship so you can learn the new science of love.

This is an official Externship, endorsed by the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) and brought to you by Kansas City EFT Community, Inc.

Attending this externship is the first step to gaining mastery as an experiential couple therapist and being listed at the EFT Website (www.iceeft.com), where couples go to find trained couple therapists.  Attending this externship is also a step towards becoming a Certified EFT Therapist.  For further details about the certification process please refer to Susan Johnson's International Centre for Excellence in EFT (https://iceeft.com/road-to-certification/).

Sue Johnson is a clinical psychologist, researcher, professor, author, popular presenter and speaker and one of the leading innovators in the field of couple therapy. She presents and writes on attachment and bonding, the science of love, interventions to repair relationships, trauma couples and forgiveness.

Sue holds professorships at the University of Ottawa in Canada and at Alliant University in San Diego, California. She is one of the originators and the main proponent of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy ( EFT), a powerful, tested intervention to help couples repair rifts and build strong loving bonds. She is also the Director of the Ottawa Couple and Family Institute and the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) which has numerous affiliated Centres and Communities in North America and Europe.

In this Externship, you will learn to:

• see marital distress from an attachment perspective
• help partners reprocess the emotional responses that maintain marital distress
• shape key new interaction and bonding events and,
• overcome therapeutic impasses.

You will also see live consultation sessions with a couple, a profound learning experience.

Meet Your Trainer

Elana Katz, LCSW, LMFT is a senior faculty member at the Ackerman Institute for the Family where she teaches advanced family therapy and directs the Family and Divorce Mediation Program. She has presented nationally and internationally on family therapy, mediation, and collaborative divorce, including annual meetings of the American Family Therapy Academy, the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and the Psychotherapy Networker.

One of the first therapists in New York to become certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an approach that helps clients understand and change their patterns in key relationship, Ms. Katz is now one of the forty Trainers in EFT worldwide.

She has published a number of articles and has been quoted by the New York Times, the Associated Press, and other media outlets, including National Public Radio.

Ms. Katz currently serves on the Executive Board of the New York Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy as well as the Board of Directors of the New York Association for Collaborative Professionals. Her private practice is in Manhattan.

Schedule: 8:30am - 5:00pm - Registration begins Monday at 8:00am

■ Day 1: What makes EFT work: theoretical underpinnings, Research and the Map
■ Day 2: Demonstration Session, EFT Interventions and Stage 1
■ Day 3: Demonstration Session and Stage 2 – the two key Change Events
■ Day 4: Becoming an EFT Therapist, Stage 3 and Attachment Injuries

12:15 – 1:30 Lunch (approximate time; you provide your own lunch)
