Growing our KC EFT Community
In October 2015 I was new to the Kansas City area and newly certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy. And I was lonely, especially for the warm, supportive EFT community I enjoyed in the Washington DC area before moving to Kansas. So I was thrilled to discover that a group of three local EFT trained therapists had just scheduled their first meeting. They graciously invited me to join them. On November 2nd on a cold morning in Lawrence, four of us met, thus starting our little Kansas City EFT group. I don’t remember everything we discussed, but I remember the support and connection I felt as we shared our passion for EFT and our mutual desire to build a community in the KC area.
Fast forward about 20 months as our group meets over dinner on June 26, 2017, this time with a specific agenda to structure our group so we can become an ICCEFT approved EFT community. Even though only seven of us could attend the meeting, many others volunteered to take on duties to help our group move forward, such as webpage and social media maintenance, planning trainings, and organizing community meetings. I am so proud to be a part of our growing community: we now have 20 EFT trained enthusiasts wanting to participate in our community, we have earned CEUs by training each other, and we are planning to bring an EFT externship and other trainings to the KC area. Of course we have had growing pains, but I feel joyful to reflect on how far we have come!!
Just like our EFT community has a story, each of us has an EFT journey worth sharing. I hope we can share those stories on our website blogs to continue to inspire and motivate each other. I am grateful we are not alone! I am grateful for your friendship and for reminding me why I love EFT! Our clients and community need this model to heal wounds and build bonds. I am grateful for the past we share and look forward to the work we will do together to develop the KC Emotionally Focused Therapy community!
